16 Days of Activism
From 25 November, we join the annual global UN Women 16 Days of Activism campaign, calling for the prevention and elimination of gender-based violence against women and girls.
The campaign begins on 25 November – International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and ends on 10 December – Human Rights Day. www.unwomen.org
This year’s theme — UNiTE to End Violence against Women, with a focus on #NoExcuse for Online Abuse — highlighting the growing reality that for many women and girls, the digital world has become another site of harm.
Online abuse isn’t “just online.” A single message or comment can escalate into real-world threats and violence. Private photos are stolen. Lies spread within seconds. Locations are tracked. AI is weaponised to create deepfakes designed to shame, silence and control women.
The reality:
- 1 in 3 women will experience gender-based violence in their lifetime
- 16–58% of women and girls face digital violence
- 90–95% of deepfake videos are sexual images of women
Behind every statistic is a real woman or girl whose safety, dignity and wellbeing are impacted — at home, at work, and in the community.
Gender-based violence can affect your ability to work, your job security, your safety at work, and your mental wellbeing.
You have rights, and you do not have to navigate this alone.

This 16 Days, we’re calling for a world where technology is used for equality, not harm.
